Why Editing Loom Videos Matters

Creating a Loom video is just the first step; editing it is what turns a rough recording into a polished, professional communication tool.

Here are five reasons why editing your Loom videos is essential:

  • Clarity and Focus: Trim unnecessary sections, pauses, or mistakes so viewers can follow your message effortlessly.
  • Professional Impression: A well-edited video reflects attention to detail and builds credibility with your audience.
  • Enhanced Engagement: Cutting long pauses and distractions keeps viewers interested from start to finish.
  • Improved Accessibility: Adding captions, highlights, or summaries ensures your content is easier to understand and reference later.
  • Repurposing Potential: Clean, edited Loom videos can be reused across presentations, social media, or internal communications without extra work.

How to Edit a Loom Video (Two Methods)

Note: To edit Loom videos effectively using either of the methods we’ll share, you’ll need to be on at least the Loom Business plan.

If you want fast, professional-quality Loom video editing, Cleanvoice is a strong choice. It uses AI to trim recordings and remove background noise, filler words, awkward pauses, mouth sounds, reverb, harsh breaths, and stutters while enhancing your voice with Studio Sound.

You can also extract audio from Loom videos and generate transcripts, summaries, and social content in one smooth workflow.

Step 4: Choose an Editing Template

Cleanvoice offers both ready-made templates and custom templates to save your time.

  • Default templates:
    • Enhance Audio Only (Studio Sound): Removes background noise, distortion, harsh breaths, and reverb. It also adjusts your voice tone and clarity for studio-quality sound. Ideal if you want the cleanest, most professional result without cutting the video.
    • Enhance & Edit Lightly: Reduces noise, enhances audio quality, and trims minor filler words and short pauses. Best for quick cleanups where you want light edits without changing the video structure much.
    • Enhance, Edit & Summarize: Enhances the audio, lightly edits the video, and automatically generates a transcript and summary. A great option if you plan to reuse your Loom content for documentation, notes, or internal sharing.
    • Edit: Mute sections, remove hesitations or long silences
    • Enhance: Apply Studio Sound, normalize volume, remove breaths, keep music
    • Export: Generate transcription, summaries, or social content; select file format
  • Give your custom template a name and click Create Template.

  • Select your chosen template (default or custom) and click "Start Processing".

Step 5: Review & Download

Once processing is complete, you’ll see a report dashboard showing:

  • Number of filler words, stutters, breaths, and dead air trimmed out
  • Playback preview to compare the original vs edited video

When satisfied:

  • Click Download Video to save it to your device.
Bonus: How to Extract Your Audio from a Loom Video?

If you need the audio from the Loom video, Cleanvoice also offers a 100% audio extractor. No account required.

  1. Visit: https://cleanvoice.ai/extract-audio-from-video/
  1. Upload your Loom video (MP4, AVI, WEBM, MOV – max 500MB)
  2. Trim start and end if needed using the slider or timestamps
  1. Choose output format (MP3 or WAV)
  2. Click Extract Audio

Your audio will process and download automatically.

Method 2: Using the In-Built Loom Editor

Loom’s built-in editor is a convenient option if you want to make quick, basic edits without leaving the platform. While it’s limited compared to dedicated editing tools, it’s still useful for light trimming and simple cleanups.

Also, it's more of a text-based editor, rather than a fully AI editor. It means that you will still need to review your transcript and the removed fillers. Moreover, it will not enhance your voice.

Follow the steps below to edit your Loom video using Loom’s native editor.

Step 1: Open Your Loom Video

Before you begin, make sure your video is already recorded and saved in your Loom Library.

  1. Log in to your Loom account.
  2. Locate the video you want to edit in your library.
  1. Click on the video to open it in viewer mode. At the bottom, you’ll see tabs like Comments, Summary, and Chapters.

Step 2: Access the Edit Menu and Timeline Editor

On the right-hand sidebar, you’ll see several options:

  • Edit
  • Activity
  • Transcript
  • View
  • Settings

Click on Edit.

Under the Edit tab, Loom provides the following options:

  • Edit, trim and enhance video
  • Remove silences (one-click toggle)
  • Remove filler words (one-click toggle)

Note: If you’re on the free plan, these options will appear greyed out or padlocked.

Click “Edit, trim, and enhance video”. This opens Loom’s dedicated timeline-based video editor, similar to a basic video editing interface.

Step 3: Make Basic Edits Using the Timeline

Below the video player, you’ll see the editing timeline. From here, you can:

  • Trim the video: Drag the left or right handles to cut the beginning or end of the video.
  • Split clips: Move the playhead to a specific point and click Split.
  • Delete sections: Highlight a section and select Delete Selection.
  • Add clips: Use the Add a clip button on the far right to insert or merge another video.
  • Add overlays or backgrounds: Use the options on the right-hand panel to add text overlays or background visuals.
  • Undo or redo changes: Use the undo/redo buttons at the top if you make a mistake.

Preview your edits by playing the video directly in the editor.

Step 4: Finalize and Apply Changes

Once you’re satisfied:

  1. Click Finish in the top-right corner. This returns you to the video viewer page.
  2. Go back to the right-hand menu and click Settings (this may be hidden under a “More” dropdown).
  3. Under Enhancements, toggle Background Noise Filter on if needed (Loom hides this setting, so it’s easy to miss).
  1. Click the Save button at the bottom right to process all edits.

Step 5: Share or Download Your Video

After processing is complete:

  • Click Share to send the Loom video to colleagues or clients.
  • Or click the three-dots menu button beside "share" to download the video to your computer for external use.

It trims filler words, awkward silences, mouth sounds, and background noise, applies Studio Sound, all while keeping your video perfectly in sync.
